Fuel System
Now
that the body is to the point that it is, I can now move forward with
fuel and exhaust system and maybe getting the engine running
again. The first step is to install the fuel tank so I can then
figure out how to route the exhaust around it. I want the exhaust
to exit at the rear of the truck Did a lot of research.
Didn't know this would be so involved. Options included steel
tanks, stainless steel tanks, poly tanks, racing fuel cells, internal
pumps, external pumps, with/without sumps. For cost and safety
reasons, I went with an aluminum fuel cell from
Summit Racing. The tank
has a capacity of 20 gallons and measures 24x20x10. For the fuel
pump, I used an external in-line pump (GM part #
25117086) rated at 95
psi. Finally, to
regulate the fuel pressure to the 58 psi needed by the LS1, I used
the '99 Corvette combination fuel filter/regulator (GM part #
10299146). Thanks to the guys at
LS1 Tech for this
idea. I placed an order for an
assortment of AN-6 and AN-8 fittings and adapters to get everything
connected. My step dad was a huge help designing/fabricating a
frame to support and protect the fuel cell. Hannah, my 10 year
old, helped clean and paint the frame. This turned out very nice.
