Paint
I really wanted to paint the truck myself. But after some
experimenting here and there, decided that it didn't make much sense to
spend so much time on the truck only to have a mediocre paint
job. So, I loaded up the truck and shipped it off to a member at
my church who owns
Texas Aftermarket.
Rich's business primarilies specializes in automotive leather
upholstery but he has also personally restored a number of 2nd
generation camaros. Rich is going to do the interior on my truck
but I also worked it out with him to do some final prep work on the
body before paint.
Here, the girls and I back the truck out of the garage.
Borrowed my brother's truck again and rented a car hauler from u-haul.
Here it is at Rich's place after a few passes of filling small dents
and scratches.
Driver's side...
After Rich was done, the truck was shipped off to Gary Baker who
owns
Trucks N Stuff in
Bastrop, Texas. Gary has a number of hot rods in progress and
project/parts cars for sale. He also has a paint booth at his
shop and will be doing the painting on my truck. That's Gary in
the cowboy hat.
Before painting, Gary had a couple of guys go over the truck a few more
times getting everything just right. They always look good in
primer. The moment of truth will be when it's nice and shiny
after paint. I feel confident it will turn out great. If it
doesn't, it won't be due to lack of effort.
Truck finally made it into the paint booth. This picture was
taken after two coats of base were done waiting for the clear coat to
be sprayed.
Paint finished and truck put mostly back together. Still needs
the tailgate and some trim installed. I am really pleased with
how it turned out. The finish is great and the color will be a
big hit here in Longhorn country. I have been somewhat anxious
about the color choice but now that it is done, all I can say is
Hook'Em Horns!
3 and a half months after I took the truck out to get paint/interior,
it's finished and back at my house.
It's great having the truck back where I can work on it again. I
had a whole box or parts from
Classic
Parts waiting to install. Here are some Before and After
pictures...
