Paint Selection
In keeping with the Do-It-Myself theme, I want to paint the truck
myself. But, I also want it to look good. So first I
decided to practice a little on my Sea Doo. It was wrecked a few
years back at a company lake outing. I repaired the nose some
time
ago but never got around to painting it.
"Before"
"After"
Turned out pretty good. At least from 8 or more feet away.
I did have a few runs and sags, mostly on the lower half of the
hull. Since they are below the waterline, I left them alone.
Color selection - I have been worried about this for some time. I
want burnt orange but there are so many shades. I decided the safest
thing to do is find a car with a color I like and to go with
that. The Chevy Colorado pickup comes in a Sunburst Orange
metallic that I liked. So, I bought a quart (Dupont ChromaBase)
and painted a test piece to see what it it looked like. Here's
the driveshaft after some sanding and a coat of self-etching primer.
And here it is finished and installed. I like the color.
Time to start on the rest of the truck.
